The visual identity of the Translating Pram exhibition was collectively designed by Visual Communication Design students at Kalbis University, facilitated by the curatorial team and faculty. The design process explored themes of citizen participation and alternative historiography, while incorporating key symbols associated with Pramoedya Ananta Toer, such as the typewriter and narrative elements from his literary works.
The visual approach combines modular forms and pixels as metaphors for fragmented memory and collective archives, alongside circular shapes and neural networks to represent the ever-expanding connections of citizen-based knowledge. Typography and color schemes were chosen to reflect a contemporary aesthetic while retaining archival and historical resonance. This identity was applied across all exhibition materials, including posters, signage, catalogs, and the interface of the interactive timeline.
